Clean chemistry laboratories

Built in 2000 and refurbished in 2013, the clean lab suite consists of nine separate rooms supplied with nominal Class 1000 (ISO 6) HEPA filtered air. The nine rooms contain a total of 30 individual laminar flow workstations, supplied with ultra-clean Class 10 (ISO 4) air. Each room has a supply of >18MOhm·cm water on tap, in addition to a centralised supply of 18.2MOhm·cm Milli-Q™ water and twice-distilled reagent acids. The wide range of materials processed in the lab includes meteorites, terrestrial rocks and sediments, river and sea water, and biological samples. The number of individual clean rooms available allows virtually complete separation of conflicting sample material, so that potential cross-contamination can be kept to an absolute minimum.
